New Black Sounds – Michelle Kadir

Every week we let someone who we find inspiring take over our official Spotify playlist.

This week: Michelle Kadir

The digitalisation of music has changed the music industry completely the last 10 years. There are people who work tirelessly to contribute to this change, making the consumer’s experience as good as possible. Michelle Kadir is one of these people.

“Music is everything to me, in all aspects of life. It enhances everything, creates meaning and memories”

After getting her masters degree in Computer Science at Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan in Stockholm, Michelle started her career at Universal Music at their digitalisation department. In 2007 she met Daniel Ek, founder of Spotify, as he was pitching the beta version of Spotify for Universal. Michelle fell in love with the product and left Universal to go work for Spotify in 2009. At the time, Spotify had 30 employees. Michelle worked her way up from project manager to director of product development. The work Michelle and her team did the coming years changed the way we consume music today.
After 6 years at Spotify she went on to work at Sony Music where she runs their digital department. Her last development is an application which gives the artist full insight in all the data that their music is producing.

Michelle’s work has always been driven by her passion for music, technology and constant development.

“This playlist is inspired by all the time you spend by yourself driving your car, riding the bus, walking or just lying on the coach zoning out. When you turn off everything else but the music”
